Artificial Intelligence Development Chief, DAF MIT AI Accelerator

Maj Morgan Mitchell

Maj Morgan R. Mitchell is an artificial intelligence development chief at the DAF MIT AI Accelerator in Cambridge, MA.  She leads the Air Guardian project that performs fundamental research and tests new autonomy methods in aircraft in support of the Collaborative Combat Aircraft program in coordination with DARPA and the Test Pilot School.

Maj Mitchell received her commission following graduation from Officer Training School in 2012.  Earning her missile combat operator badge from ICBM initial qualification training in 2014 and crossflowed as a 15A in October 2017. As a missile operator, she was the B-52 Aircrew Electronic Warfare Officer Trainer, Assistant Chief of the Wing Command Post, and an ICBM Missile Combat Crew Commander in the 91st Missile Wing, Minot Air Force Base, N.D.  She provided nuclear combat capability to the Commander, United States Strategic Command, in support of national objectives. Additionally, she was responsible for the 5th Bomb Wing B-52H Electronic Warfare Officer training program, overseeing and providing training for over 140 Aircrew members ensuring they are ready to perform nuclear and conventional warfare on the $84 million long range bomber.  After crossflowing to the Operations Analysis career field, Maj Mitchell served as a Space Campaign Analyst and the Chief of the Director’s Action Group in AF/A9 providing strategic analysis, modeling, and simulation in support of national Space and Cyber objectives.  She worked as a Personnel Policy Analyst at A1 Headquarters in the Pentagon, Washington D.C. where she used data analysis techniques to guide personnel policy and directly answer questions from Air Force Leadership and Congress.  At Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA., Maj Mitchell led the analysis flight where she performed telemetry analysis for the MMIII Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) test flights and executed a $100 billion Air Force Global Strike Command test and evaluation portfolio, overseeing five successful test launches.  Prior to her current assignment, she graduated from the CSAF Blue Horizons fellowship and rapid-prototyped an artificial intelligence-powered talent management software suite that transitioned to Air Education and Training Command in support of the stand up of the Airmen Development Command.
